Emociones - Emotions

Hola! Bueno les cuento que hace una semana me mude con mi familia anfitriona con la cual yo vive por 9 meses antes. Pues nos toco limpiar todo el apartamento, hubo mucho que hacer. Nos toco que limpiar hasta las paredes y cada esquina del apartamento.

Fue algo dificil moverme de regreso con mi familia pero a la vez no, porque yo se que va ser mas facil estar alli porque ya no me voy a preocupar en cocinar (jajaja). Pues tuvimos clasificar las cosas que queriamos dejar para los proximos estudiantes. Yo no me habia dado cuenta que tantas cosas que tenia y pues me toco que regarlas o tirarlas. Pues desde este dia prepare mis maletas y pues me pone alegre ver las maletas pero triste a la vez.

En cuanto a al clima, ultimamente a estado lloviendo bastante y pues supuestamente el verano esta cerca. Entonces, ahorita ya estoy viviendo con una familia por las ultimas 3 semanas. Ya solo me faltan 12 dais para que me vaya, tiempo vuela.

Hello! Well let me tell you that a week ago I moved out to my host family house with whom I lived for nine months before. Then we had to clean the entire apartment, there was much to do. We had to clean up the walls and every corner of the apartment.

It was somewhat difficult to move back with my family but at the same time not, because I know it will be easier to be there because I am not going to worry on cooking (lol). Before we moved, we

classified things we wanted to leave for the next students. I had not realized that so many things I have got and I had to give them and

throw away. Since this day I packed, but it makes me glad to see the suitcases ready, but sad at the same time.

As far as the weather, it’s been raining a lot and it supposed to be summer. So right now I'm living with a family for the last three weeks. Now I only have 12 days, before I leave,time flies.

Two Weeks - Dos Semanas

Hola a todos! Talvez ya sabes, pero ya solo me quedan dos semanas en Oregon. He tratado de escribir algo en mi blog, pero no he podido. Ahorita estoy pero bien ocupado con muchos proyectos que tengo que entregar en estas semanas.

mmm... tengo mucho que decirles pero no tengo el tiempo para poder hacerlo. Pero si les quiero decir que estoy muy muy emocionado porque voy regresar a zacapa muy pronto, pero al mismo tiempo un poco triste que voy a dejar un lugar que quiero mucho. Ha sido una gran bendicion haber estado aqui, aprendi muchas cosas que jamas hubiera aprendido en Guatemala.

Me voy a graduar el 11 de Junio y pues me entere que me voy a graduar con honores. Estoy muy agradecido que me ha ido muy bien en mis estudios. Les pido que oren por el resto de mis estudios y pues que tambien todo salga bien.

Hello everyone! Maybe you know, but I only have two weeks left in Oregon. I tried to write something on my blog, but I could not. But now I'm very busy with many projects that I have turn in coming weeks.

mmm ... I have much to say but I have no time to do so. But I really want to say that I'm very excited because I will be soon in Zacapa, but also a little sad because I'm leaving a place that I love very much. It has been a great blessing to have been here, I learned many things I never could have learned in Guatemala.

I will graduate on June 11 and since I found out that I will graduate with honors. I am grateful that I have done very well in my studies. I ask you to pray for the rest of my studies and also for everything.

My internship - Mis practicas

Hola! Como les va? Me gustaría tener más tiempo para poder contarles casi todo, pero no puedo. Hoy quiero contarles que donde estoy haciendo mis prácticas me dieron unas muestras de suelo para trabajar para hacer un reporte con los datos que se necesita. Me reuní con uno de mis profesores pasados que se llama Bill Becker, en uno de los laboratorio de ciencias, yo le pregunté porque sé que él tiene acceso a los laboratorios de ciencias. El tenia listo equipo y el material que necesitábamos, fue increíble haber trabajado con él, porque él sabe muchas cosas sobre suelos. Durante las primeras dos horas estábamos trabajando en la medición del pH de las muestras de suelo y también los niveles de NPK (macronutrientes). Todo lo que hicimos fue paso a paso, tuvimos instrucciones para saber cómo medir el NPK, así como el Ph. Algunos de las cosas que usamos fue una balanza digital, tubos de ensayo, pipetas de 3 ml, cucharones y también algo de material . La clave de este proceso fue seguir lo que dicen las instrucciones y ser organizado con las muestras de suelo mientras se está trabajando.

Esta semana no pude ir a Zigzag, porque el bus no estaba funcionando. Me gusta mucho hacer este proyecto con las muestras de suelo, porque lo estoy haciendo independientemente. Se me pidió que hacerlo y lo hago sin ninguna ayuda del Servicio Forestal. Una de mis objetivos es tener algunas oportunidades para trabajar independientemente lo cual estoy haciendo. Creo que valió la pena haber luchado por esta oportunidad para hacer mis prácticas con el Servicio Forestal.

Hello! How are you doing? I wish I had more time to tell you almost everything, but I can not. Today I want to share with you that in my internship, someone gave me some samples of soil to work in order to type a report with the information needed. I met with one of my past teachers whose name is Bill Becker in one of the sciences lab; I asked him because I know he has access to the sciences labs. He had set up the equipment and the material we needed, it was awesome to have worked with him because he knows a lot of things about soil. During this the first two hours we were working on measuring the Ph of the soil samples and the also the levels of NPK (macronutrients). Every we did was step by step, we had some guidelines in order to know how to measure the NPK as well as the Ph. Some of the equipment we used was a digital scale, test tubes, 3 ml pipettes, scoops and also some material. The key of this process was to follow what the guidelines say and be organized with the soil samples while you are working on.

This week I couldn’t go to Zigzag because the bus wasn’t running. n the other hand I really like doing this project with the soil samples because I am doing it independently. I was asked to do it and I am doing it without any help from the Forest Service. One of my objectives is to have some opportunities to work independently which I am doing. I think it was worthwhile to have strived for this internship opportunity with the Forest Service.

Practicas - Internship

Monday 26th, April

Today was awesome, I worked with the fish biologists compiling data from almost all the fish traps they have running up in Zigzag. We had to load the equipment to a truck and then we went to each trap. We most of the time was driving because they were in 4 different rivers which are: Salmon River, Still creek, Zigzag river and Clear Fork Sandy river. I had again to wear waders in order to get on the traps and with a hand net catch the Juveniles and Smolts stealhead and Cojo fish. We have to get the these fish from the trap and get them in buckets so that we could measure them. After we had a bucket with a small amount of water with a liquid that put the fish sleepy so it is easy to handle them and get the data. We were measuring their length, weight and if they were smolt we mark them.

I got the chance to use the data logger which is an electronic device where you can insert you data in excel sheets. After we got the data we have to release the fish as soon as we can up stream. We also did some maintenance in one of that traps that are not running right now but It will eventually. At the end of the day we went to the offices and we downloaded the data from the logger to the computer. I really enjoyed what I did today because finally I got the chance to be involved with interesting projects. What the Forest Service wants is to calculate or estimate the population of Steelhead and Cojo fish that are heading to the ocean.

Lunes 26 de abril

Hoy ha sido impresionante, he trabajado con los biólogos de peces que recopilan datos de trampas para peces que ellos tienen en Zigzag. Tuvimos que cargar el equipo en un camión y luego fuimos a cada trampa. La mayoría del tiempo estuvimos conduciendo porque eran 4 diferentes ríos que son: Rio Salmón, Still Creek, Zigzag y Fork clear Sandy . Tenia que usar botas para poder estar en el agua y subirme a las trampas y con una red de mano capturar los peces Juveniles stealhead smolts y peces Cojo. Teniamos que poner los peces de la trampa a unos cubetas para que pudiéramos medirlos. Después tuvimos los peces en una cubeta con una pequeña cantidad de agua y con un líquido que pone el pez cansado para que sea fácil para agarrarlos y obtener los datos. Estábamos midiendo su longitud, peso y si eran peces algo grandes de salmón se marcaban.

Tuve la oportunidad d e utilizar el registrador de datos que es un dispositivo electrónico donde se puede insertar datos en hojas de cálculo.

Después obtenemos los datos liberamos los peces tan pronto como se p udimos. También hicimos un poco de mantenimiento en una de las trampas que no se están funcionando en este momento pero va funcionar con el tiempo. Al final del día fuimos a las oficinas y descarg amos los datos del registrador a la computadora. Me gustó mucho lo que hice hoy porque tuve l a op ortunidad de participar en proyectos interesantes. Lo que el Servicio Forestal quiere es calcular o estimar la población de peces de Steelhead y Cojo que se dirigen hacia el océano.

Lo ultimo! - Home Stretch

Hola! Deveras que el tiempo vuela; ya casi tengo 2 anos de estar aqui en Oregon. Que podria decir? Ha sido una gran bendicion poder compartir mi cultura, bonitas experiencias y mucho mas con amigos y compañeros. Bueno mi meta es graduarme aqui como Tecnico en Recursos Naturales y pues primero Dios eso sera en Junio.

Ahorita estoy tomando mis ultimas clases, las cuales son Biologia II, Proyectos de Campo, Ecoturismo, Fotografia Digital y Sistema de Informacion Geografica. Pues me encantan las clases, hay mucho que aprender.

Pues ahora siento que el tiempo esta pasando rapidísimo. pues estoy con ganas de ver a mi familia otra vez. Dios tiene un plan para mi vida, pero yo necesito seguir con el. Pues se siente raro uno saber que uno va regresar donde uno crecio pero a la vez esta dejando un lugar donde pasastes casi dos anos. Creo que voy a necesitar fuerzas para poder dejar este lugar porque aqui es mi segundo Hogar.

Ahorita estoy esperando mi otra clase que es desde las 2:00 pm a las 5:00 pm y despues tengo una clase desde las 6:00 pm a 9:00 pm.

Hello! Seriously, time flies; it’s almost two years of being here in Oregon. What could I say? It’s been a great blessing to share my culture, and more beautiful experiences with friends and classmates. Well, my goal is to graduate here as a Natural Resources Technician and Lord willing will be in June.

Right now I'm taking my last classes, which are Biology II, Field Projects, Ecotourism, Digital Photography and Geographic Information System. I love my classes, there is so much to learn.

Now, I feel the time goes by. I am looking forward to seeing my family again. God has a plan for my life, but I need walk with Him. It feels weird to know that you will return to where you have been raised yet is leaving a place where you spent nearly two years. I think I will need strength to leave this place because here is my second home.

Right now I'm waiting for my other class is from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm and then I have a class from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Easter - Pascua

Hey! How have you been? I hope you are doing well. Today i decided to share a little bit of my experience here in Easter. The day of Good Friday and the rest of the weekend, i went visit my friend Tom's Lappi family. I really enjoyed Easter because i got the chance to be around christian. My friend Tom told me that the only two words that an english learner needs to learn in USA are nisu and sisu (funny guy).

I really like the dishes of food that people here make for Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving and for any occasion. In Guatemala during these days is warm, but here it was different, which makes Oregon pretty for having different seasons.

Hey! Como has estado? Espero que te encuentres bien. Hoy decidi compartir un poco de mi experiencia aqui durante la Pascua. El dia viernes santo y el resto del fin de semana, fui a visitar la familia de mi amigo Tom Lappi. Disfrute la Pascua porque tuve la oportunidad estar con cristianos. Mi amigo Tom me digo que las únicas dos palabras que una persona que esta aprendiendo ingles son Nisu and Sisu (es una broma en ingles).

Me deveras que me encantan las comidas que la gente aquí hace para la Pascua, Navidad, Accion de Gracias y por cual ocasión. En Guatemala durante estos días esta caliente, pero aquí estuvo diferente, lo cual hace a Oregon bonito por tener diferente estaciones.
